Relax and Detoxify in a Peat Bath
Enjoy the health benefits of a medicinal peat bath in Mendocino, CA
What is a medicinal peat bath?
For over 200 years in Europe, baths using peat have been used for medicinal purposes. Low moor peat contains nitrous & biologically active substances which make it medicinally useful.
The most common peloids are made of peat, lake mud, sea mud, or plant material.
Peat is about 90% water and about 10% decomposed plant material. The plant material entraps heat. Placed in a bath and put in contact with the body, the peat slowly and gently transfers heat into the tissues, soothing pain and promoting healing. Peat packs and bath additives are made from finely textured natural peat from the world's most notable peatlands. Our integrative medical center in Mendocino County offers medicinal peat baths with high-quality peat.

What conditions can peat baths help with?

What to Expect at your peat bath appointment in Fort Bragg
You will step into a medicinal peat bath filled up to 10 inches from the top with water at a temperature of 105-113°F. The duration and temperature of the bath depend on the condition being treated. Peat is added to the bath, and the patient enters the water slowly. The peat helps maintain the temperature as the water slowly cools.
You'll be submerged in the peat bath for up to 20 minutes. Then, we'll help you onto a table covered with a clean sheet and wrap wool blankets around your body. You'll relax for another 30 minutes while perspiration is stimulated to complete the process.
